Tense draw leaves Bolton on the brink

Not a game of great quality this. West Ham's result earlier in the day meant Bolton couldn't really afford to lose the game, whereas Saints didn't really have much to play for but equally didn't appear to want to lose a game at home so late in the saeason after they had done so well throughout.

So it was a ggame of few incidents and few real chances, Beattie did get the ball in the net but it was ruled off for offside and Pedersen had Bolton's best chance meeting a high looping cross at the back post but was unable to get the ball on target. Otherwise it was a very sterile game, with one goalmouth scramble leaving wanderers fans nerves in tatters but Jaaskelainen's punch out was enough to clear the ball out of the box. Andre again impressed as a substitute and Bergsson had a headed effort wide but in the end neither swide really deserved score or win, so a 0-0 scoreline was just about right.

This result means that if Bolton win their final home game against Middlesbrough, they will stay up regardless of any other result. Otherwise, Bolton must do as well as West Ham do (who play away at Birmingham) to stay in the premiership and comdemn the hammers to relegation.
