Not that much to be said about this game really. For the first half at least it was pretty simple - Boro are third and looked it, Bolton are third from bottom and looked it. The only thing that limted the scoreline to Ehiogu's header from a corner was some rather wayward finishing from Maccarone and Boksic, otherwise it would have been at least 3-0 by half time. It has to be said that that Boro played exceptionally well, showing all the confidence their league position would give a team and playing with great pace.

Half time substitutions by Allardyce helped a lot though. Farrelly came on for Chalrton, who had been suffering with aknee injury and that allowed Bolton to go to a more familiar 4-4-2. Also Ricketts coming on foe the frankly woeful Holdsworth at least allowed Bolton to stop Boro from playing a such high line they were virtually all in Bolton's half.

And yet Bolton's scoring touch still evades them , Ricektts putting Bolton's best chance over the bar from a floated pass by Okocha, who made a pretty reasonable fist of it after coming on for Frandsen, who had been seriously flagging. At the other end though Geremi showed the way, with a very cool finish after being put through, although Bolton have grounds for complaint of a foul on Barness in the buildup.

So what's there to say? Boro were the better team and won the game. Seems fairly simple and hard to argue with. Bolton are creating chances in numbers, but until one of their increasingly desperate looking group of strikers steps forward and starts putting the ball in the goal, it's going to be very hard going.
