KeviN Davies Arrives
Ex Southampton and Blackburn striker Kevin Davies has impressed enough on the pre-season tour to earn a full contract with Bolton. Fans may remember Davies first came to public notice in Chesterfield Town's run the FA Cup semi final in 1997, during which he scored a hat trick against? Bolton Wanderers...

Campo Returns
After a last mionute scare during his medical, Ivan Campo has signed a 3 year contract at the Wanderers and re-joins the squad as a permanent member.

Laville Signs
Bolton have announced they have finalised the details for the permanent signing of Florent Laville, so impressive on loan towards the end of last season. He arrives on a half a million pound deal from Lyon and has signed a two year contract.

Sky Games Announced
Sky have announced which games they will be covering up to the end of 2003. Bolton are on twice, both in October. The Villa away game on Sunday 5th, and the home game against Birmingham on the 25th, which I think as a result will become 12:30 kickoff.
Campo Deal Falls Through
Reports suggest Bolton have been unable to agree a deal with Ivan Campo that would bring him to the Reebok for next season. Campo is a free agent but according to an interview with Sam Allardyce, Campo's agent was proving too stubborn for a contract to be concluded.

New Fixtures out
The 2003-2004 fixture list was released this morning. What with this being the age of the microchip and all that, we're providing it in various formats..
1) VCal File which is atype of electronic calendar datya you should be able to import into soimething like a palm or pocketPC pda, or Outlook calendar, or maybe even these days your mobile phone.
2) PDF Wallchart which will do until someone does a proper one and at least fits on a sheet of A4,
3) Plain Text File which I'm sure you can read if you can't figure out either of the other two.

First New Signing
Bolton have announced their first signing of the summer. Greek right winger Stelios Giannakopoulos has signed from Olympiakos on a three year contract. Stelios has extensive international and champions league experience and scored 13 goals in 28 games last season. Blimey.

Last Report is done
Apologies for the rather long wait time for the final match report and movies. It's been a buzy week for me. The report and some movies of the final game and the celebrations afterwards are now available. This means that from now on the only page being updated here is this one, with news over the summer of any squad changes or important events. I hope you have a good summer.

Rapturous Reebok as Wanderers Survive
First half goals from Per Frandsen and JayJay Okocha ensured Bolton won against Middlesbrough this afternoon to ensure another season of Premiership football. West Ham gained a creditable 2-2 with Birmingham, but Bolton's win means The Hammers are relegated with 42 points, a new record total. It would be easy to take joy in West Ham's pain especcially given some of horribly baised press coverage of the two teams in the last week but I prefer to consider the idea that 'there but for the grace of God..'. Ex Wanderer Michael Ricketts did as Bolton fans expected and scored after coming on as sub but the sending of of Frank Quedreue late on allowed Bolton to hold out for a vital 2-1 win.

Down To the Wire
Bolton gained a 0-0 away draw at Southampton late Saturday. However other results mean the final game is still significant. The only teams who can now end up occupying the final relegation spot are Bolton or West Ham, who are both on 41 points with Bolton having a better goal difference. This means that a win against Boro next weekend will ensure Bolton's safety unless West Ham win and score at least 10 goals. Otherwise Bolton must gain as good a result as West Ham (i.e if the Hammers draw we must draw, and if the hammers lose only an absolute demolition by Boro would cause Wanderers to be relegated). It is entirely possible a team will be relegated this season on 42 or 44 points, which given the 'safety mark' is generally regarded as 40 points, shows how hard this season has been.

Strip Scans
I've scanned in some stuff about the news strips for next year. First is a 'cartoon' advert, reminiscent of the campaign the BBC did for Japan/Korea 2002. Second is a pic of Henryck Pedersen wearing the new strip. Both scans taken from the 26th April match programme.
26th April 2003

Comeback against the Gunners
Bolton came from 2-0 down with half an hour to go to draw 2-2 with Arsenal at the Reebok. This puts Bolton on 40 points (very superstitious) and throws a major spanner into Arsene Wenger's side's push for the title. After goals from Wiltord and Pires had seen Arsenal pull ahead, a goal from Youri Djorkaeff brought Bolton back into the game and an own-goal from Martin Keown brought Wanderers level.
New strip causes controversy
The first choice strip for next season has been revealed, and reaction has been quite mixed. The problem is the strip is all white i.e. the normal dark blue shorts have been changed. MAny fans find the new strip appealing, and suggest it brings comparison with Real Madrid (like, who cares, they can't even win at Old Trafford) while others see it as change for changes sake. Given I wasn't actually planning on buying the shorts and probably very few people were, I think it's rather a storrm in a teacup personally. The new strip can be seen here. I know it's a crap photo, but it's the only one I can find you don't need some sort of login to get to. I'll try and do a scan of the pictures from todays programme and have them up here ASAP.

Okocha - He really is that good.
JayJay Okocha scored a stunning goal to give Wanderers a vital 1-0 victory in the '6pointer' against West Ham at the Reebok, which coincidentally leaves Bolton 6 points above The Hammers who occupy the final unclaimed relegation spot - Sunderland and West Brom both now being mathematically unsavable. Police are reported to be investigating some damage to the stadium facilities done by a West Ham player, after the game ended acrimoniously with Joe Cole having to be restrained from confronting the referee. Given that ref was Uriah Rennie, maybe Cole should count his blessings...
24th March 2003

Late Goals? We love 'em!
A 92nd minute penalty scored by JayJay Okocha after Martin Doherty fouled Youri Djorkaeff in the box lead to Bolton earning a deserved 1-0 win over a very lacklustre and cynical Spurs side this evening.
Off on me Hollybobs
I'm off on two weeks rest and relaxation at the weekend. This means that there will be no coverage of the Man City and Chelsea games on this website. There may be goal movies published at a later date, if I can figure out how to set my video properly.

15th March 2003

Must Win Game - won.
Away at Sunderland and facing a team with reknewed energy and a new manager (Mick McCarthy) Bolton put in a professional performance to win 2-0 with second half goals from Okocha and Pedersen, who returned way ahead of schedule after dislocating a shoulder against Man United a few weeks back. With West Ham drawing 0-0 at Everton, this gives Bolton a 2 point cushion on the relegation places.
8th March 2003

No Joy at Anfield
Bolton lost 2-0 away to Liverpool today, goals scored by Diouf and Owen either side of half time.
22nd February 2003

Can We Play Rugby Instead?
For the second game in a row, Bolton conceded a last minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw that they had mostly had the best of. However, it's a bit hard to be too critical as the opposition today was not West Brom but Man United and Bolton were genreally the better side but couldn't produce ´┐Żnishing to match their general play. Florent Laville made his debut and looked very good, giving Van Nistelrooy hardly a sniff of the ball. Bolton went ahead with an N'Gotty header in the second half, only for Solksjaer to equalise with 6 seconds of normal time left.
8th February 2003

Draw at the Hawthorns
A very late Andy Thompson equaliser cancelled out Henryck Pedersen's goal as Bolton and West Brom drew 1-1. With Sunderland and West Ham both losing, Bolton remain four points above the teamas in the relegation zone.
30th January 2003

Blimey!
24 hours of hysteria at the Reebok as the window closed and Birmingham came to play. Michael Ricketts left to go to Middlesbrough at 11:30PM last night and Salva Ballesta arrived from Valencia and Pier Yves Andre (striker) and Florent Laville (centre half) arrived from Nantes, all on loan until the end of the season. Ndiwa Lord-Kangana's transfer fell througha s international clearance could not be obtained in time.
Then, an early own goal by Kenny Cunningham started off a recracker of a game as Bolton beat Birmingham 4-2, with goals scored by Pedersen, Djorkaeff and Facey (his rst) in addition, and Robbie Savage and Clinton Morrison scoring for City.
30th January 2003

Everton and Arrivals
Bolton played very poorly and lost 2-1 to Everton at the Reebok on Tuesday night. I can think of nothing positive to say about the game at all.
Here's a plus though - Bolton have signed Valencia striker Salva Ballesta on loan until the end of the season. According to the press we are also close to signing highly rated 18 year old centre back Ndiwa Lord-Kangana from Swedish club Djuragrden.
22nd January 2003

Wanderers Lose Out To Magpies
A rst half Jermaine Jenas goal was enough for Newcastle to beat Bolton tonight at St James's Park in a game re-arranged from early this year.
29th January 2003

Woeful Wanderers Lose to Everton
In a very poor game last night Everton beat Bolton 2-1 at the Reebok. Steve Watson got two goals in the rst half (the rst quite an unbelieveable goal) and while Bergsson got a late consolation goal the result was never really in question.
20th January 2003

Ricketts Files Transfer Request
Striker Michael Ricketts, subject of some speculation since the transfer window opened, has put in a formal request to be placed on the transfer list, which Bolton have accepted. Chairman Phil Gartside has stated that they have had no concrete bid yet for Ricketts but would sell if a bid near their valuation of the player arrived.
18th January 2003

Djorkaeff Goal Earns Draw
A stylish overhead kick by Youri Djorkaeff (who seems to like scoring against Charlton) earned Bolton a 1-1 draw away a Charlton after former Wanderer Mark Fish had put Athletic ahead.
Newcastle Game on Wednesday
The Newcasle away game postponed from early in the season is to be played this wednesday evening, in case you hadn't already noticed :).

14th January 2003

Out After Extra Time
Bolton are out of the FA Cup after losing 2-0 to Sunderland after extra time, normal time having ended 0-0.

12th January 2003

Blank Against Fulham
Bolton played out a fairly poor 0-0 draw against Fulham yesterday at the Reebok. Henrick Pedersen was guilty of missing a couple of good chances but Fulham also missed a couple of sitters.

7th January 2003

We Apologise For The Delay..
Due to a bit of domestic trouble (nothing life threatening so don't worry) the update for the Cup game will be delayed by a few days.

4th January 2003

Replay Needed in the Cup
A 1-1 draw between a weakened Wanderers side and Sunderland in the FA Cup third round means the game will be replayed - I think on the 13th.

1st January 2003

Not a Happy New year..
Bolton lost their rst game of 2003 today, 2-0 away to Aston Villa.
