Some deadline day stuff happening at the Reebok - two coming in and none going out. The two in are French striker David Ngog from Liverpool on a permanent transfer (fee undisclosed) and Gael Kaktua from Chelsea, on loan until Christmas with an option for the rest of the season - essentially to fill the hole left by Chung Yong Lee's injury.
Possibly as importantly, Gary Cahill didn't leave. Arsenal made an offer that the club described as 'derisory' last week and the press rumours suggest Spurs also made some last minute enquiries. The story is they wouldn't meet the straight transfer price Bolton were asking for and (allegedly) refused a straight swap for Jermaine Defoe.

A bad day for Bolton as they failed to turn up at Anfield, LIverpool turning out easy 3-1 winners with goals from Henderson, Skrtel and Adams. Ivan Klasnic scored a late consolation after Martin Petrov capitalised on Jamie Carragher's error but Wanderers were never really in the game.

And to compensate, Bolton have signed young defender Dedryck Boyata on load from Manchester City.

Even more defensive injuries for Bolton - Marcos Alonso broke a bone in his foot on the midweek Carling Cup tie and will be missing for several weeks.

Bolton managed to avoid the banana skin of the Carling Cup second round tie against Macclesfield Town in the week. Macclesfield started brightly and managed to score in the 11th minute when Emile Sinclair beat Adam Bogdan to a through ball and led going into half time. However second half goals from Sanil Tuncay (finally available after getting his work permit) and Martin Petrov were enough o see Wanderers through.
They will play Aston Villa away in the next round, on either the 20th or 21st of September.

Another good performance but not as good a result on Sunday as Bolton welcomed the Football Manager cheat code that is Manchester City to the Reebok stadium. City took a 2-0 first half lead through goals from Silva (which Jaaskelainen should have stopped) and Barry (which he had no chance with) before Ivan Klasnic's turn and volley in the area brought Wanderers some hope going into half time. Unfortunately Edin Dzeko scored almost immediately after the restart. Kevin Davies scored a fine header later in the second half to make the final quarter of the game uncomfortable for the visitors but Wanderers couldn't find a way to an equaliser.

Bolton couldn't have asked for a much better start to the season, beating QPR 4-0 (yes, four-nil) away. Gary Cahill opened the scoring in first half injury time, followed by a Gabbidon own goal and goals from Klasnic and Mumba in the second half. Bolton are currently top of the Premier League, at least for 18 hours...

Another signing this week, as Turkish forward Tuncay Sanli (I think it's that way round) joins from Wolfsburg. Tuncay was last in England at Stoke, where his style didn't 'mesh' with Tony Pulis's 'direct' approach. He seems much more of an Owen Coyle style of player. His work permit wasn't completed for this week's game but he shoudl be available for next weekend.

Even more bad news on the injury front - Bolton have suffered a second player breaking his leg, in only a week. Tyrone Mears is the unlucky player this time, although by the statements coming out of the club his injury doesn't seem as bad as that suffered by Chung Yong Lee. Mears will be laid up for a month, after which point the healing of his injury will be assessed and it will be clear how long it will be before he can be playing again.
Bolton played their final pre-season friendly at the Reebok last night. Playing Spanish team Levante, they lost 1-0 to a late goal after a Levante free kick came back off the bar and the Spanish team's forwards were quicker to the rebound than the Wanderers defense. Overall it wasn't a bad game though with a couple of the new boys looking good.
